Vultur malware was first released in early 2021 via the Google Play Store, then it was distributed on the Android app store in 2022. Security researchers have recently discovered an upgraded version of the Vultur banking trojan is posing a substantial security risk to Android mobile apps.
The latest version of the Vultur malware includes more advanced remote-control capabilities with the infected device, including clicks, scrolls, and swipes, through Android's accessibility services such as download, upload, delete, install, and find files. It also prevents Keyguard from bypassing lock screen security measures, keylogging, interception of SMS messages and push notifications, and control over the device's screen.
An Android user will receive an SMS that will claim to have found an unauthorized transaction in their bank account, urging them to call a provided number for assistance. When you call that number, users will get connected to the scammers, who will send a follow-up SMS with a link to download a malicious version of the McAfee Security app containing the Brunhilda malware dropper.
The primary objective is to gain total control over compromised mobile devices and mobile banking apps thereby challenging android app security.
